The top House Moving Box blunders that will cost you time & money

You are moving home, and have finished choosing the removal company to suit you. All you need to do now is buy the best house moving boxes that you need for the house move, and pack your things away before the big day. What could possibly go wrong Surely a box is just a box? Surely you can just shove anything into any box and that’s how it works?

Well, no, actually there are a lot of things that can go wrong when picking and packing moving boxes. Here are the most common blunders that go wrong!

House Moving Boxes

  • You pick cardboard boxes for moving house that are too small for your things. It is easy to choose boxes quickly online or in a shop, but without actually measuring your items, there is no true way to know if they will fit in the boxes or not. It is an easy mistake to make, but a costly one too, because you will need to replace all of those boxes you purchased.
  • You pick boxes that are too large, and so they are too heavy for you to carry once they are full of things. This will cause you a lot of time during the house moving process, because it will take more than one person to carry each box.
  • You pick cardboard boxes for moving that are too weak (single walled boxes) for the job, and they break apart during the house move. It is extremely costly, because your things could get broken inside of the boxes and so you need to replace lots of your items.
  • You buy cheap tape that does not hold together your boxes securely. This can be very costly because your things can break open out of the box and break on the floor or inside of the removal van.
  • You pack the heavy-duty boxes for moving in the removal van poorly, and it ends up in your things being chucked around when you drive, breaking everything in sight!
  • You forget to write on the outside of the boxes, and it means that you have no clue what is inside of each box, and so when it comes to unpacking in the new home, you do not know where to start. What a nightmare.
  • You purchase plastic containers to move home rather than cardboard boxes, and once you have moved, you have no idea where to keep them or how to dispose of them. They are not recyclable and are difficult to re use for anything, and they cost you a fortune to begin with.
  • You purchase second hand boxes that are already a little dented, and they turn out to be much weaker than you thought because of the little dents.
  • You purchase second hand boxes that are actually quite dirty inside, and they make all of your clothes filthy when you move so you end up having to wash everything as soon as you’ve moved, adding a lot of stress to your week!
